Introduction
to Pinnacle Farms
Pinnacle
Farms was born for the love of horses. Love for the planet and
hope for the future sustains it.
Pinnacle
Farms has three related yet distinct dimensions.
OrganicPlus™
The primary
focus of the farm is an investigation of principles and practices
for OrganicPlus™ farming and forestry.
 Plants
are grown without pesticides or herbicides. Soil is enhanced with
chemical-free manure and natural soil amendments.
 All
livestock are fed organically; poultry and waterfowl are completely
free to range at will. Though the goats necessarily have a paddock,
they have free access to it at all times and daily herb walks are
standard during the green months.
Health
care is founded upon a sound, organic diet and natural living.
If intervention is required, a holistic approach, incorporating
homeopathy and herbal remedies, is the first option.

Forest
 A
mixed hardwood forest occupies about 90% of Pinnacle's land holdings.
Primary
forest functions include:

the harvest of firewood,
lumber, and maple syrup

recreation
-
oxygen production
-
soil retention and
enhancement
-
the preservation
of biodiversity by providing habitat for thousands of microbes,
plants, insects, birds, and mammals.
Equus
 Last
but not least, there is a horse side of the farm, comprised of
stallions, broodmares, and youngstock. For those who are not familiar
with the horse world, Pinnacle is a breeding farm, rather than
a riding stable. Pinnacle makes the horses that others ride.
The focus
is on warmbloods, with the intent being horses that will be healthy
companions and sound competitors for many years.

All facets of the farm
are founded upon and operated under biodynamic principles.
At Pinnacle, biodynamic
is defined as: sustainable, organic farm and forest management
which accepts plants and animals as sentient beings with thoughts,
desires, feelings and memories, and works with the physical and
spiritual nature of these beings to create and enhance dynamic,
life supporting relationships amongst and between humans, plants,
animals, fields, forest, earth, and air.
Organic food is an important
consideration but it is just one aspect of the biodynamic approach
at Pinnacle. Hence, Pinnacle has coined the term OrganicPlus™ to
capture this broader vision.

Pinnacle
Farms Today
 Today,
Pinnacle's horses are moving into the limelight - watch for PinnacleK2
on the Canadian Grand Prix jumper circuit.
An improvement cut on
the forest in 2002 is being done under the auspices of the Eastern
Ontario Model Forest and the Forest
Stewardship Council. This will provide a sound foundation for
the future of the forest and for human activities in the bush.
The OrganicPlus™ experimentation
has generated a wealth of insight and information that has supported
and will continue to support many. Prior to 2001, high predator
losses eliminated any potential profits. With a livestock guardian
dog in place, it will now be possible to investigate economy of
scale aspects of the OrganicPlus™ approach.
